The sky is gloomy and foreboding here in Maryland, so I've decided to bring on some "virtual" sunshine.

Mmm...fresh produce.  There's no better feeling than cooking dinner using fresh veggies you bought at the local farmers market.  My parents sell the veggies and lamb they grow at their farm, Chestnut Creek Farm, in Carroll County, Maryland every Saturday.  They work full time jobs than spend every night and weekend working out in the gardens.  (It'd be awesome if you gave them a little love by Liking their farm page on facebook!)

I always like it when I get to ask the experts design questions that seem basic enough, but we tend to forget. They always leave me saying "ohhhh yeahh..." Well I was offered the opportunity to ask Martin a few questions and came up with a few that either I always seem to need help with or that I get a lot from readers. Here are my questions...


1. For those who love to rearrange and change things around in their home a lot, what’s the most cost efficient way to “change” up your décor? In other words, what décor change gets you the most bang for your buck?

2. If one can only make one purchase or change to improve the eco-friendliness or green rating of their home, what singular purchase/installment would you suggest?

3. What is the most valuable lesson learned from a renovation/redecorating “mistake” you made in the beginning of your career that others can learn from?

4. This is one I get a lot - a young family moves into an old home with great original architectural elements – for example – dark wood paneling, floors, and molding. If painting or altering the wood in anyway is 100% out of the question, what design tips and tricks do you suggest for adding some youth, funk, style, and modern flair? How do you lighten up the space and “ungrannify” it with decorating elements other than paint?

Colour baths

Well, I'm recouping from Alaska and have for you one last (but not least), guest post. This one is super fun and comes to you from Trudi of The Deco Detective - who really helped me out and supported me by spreading the word about my fund raising and marathon training. Thanks Trudi! And I'm with you - I would've loved the turquoise bathroom!

Hi, I'm Trudi aka The Deco Detective! I'm here today to help Ashley out while she's away running the marathon to cure lymphoma. I'm so honoured to be asked to do a guest post at Decorology, but most of all, I'm very impressed with Ashley. I think she's really brave to sign up for a marathon!

After running marathons, I can imagine that a beautiful, luxurious bathroom will feel like heaven to sore feet and beaten muscles. To relieve things a little for her, I've picked seven bathrooms for Ashley to choose between when she's finished running. There's one bathroom for each colour of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, indigo and violet:

I hope you find (at least) one bathroom you like, Ashley. I'm curious to know which one you'll choose! And Decorology readers: which one would you pick after running a marathon? I think I'd prefer the turquoise one to cool myself off - although me running a marathon would be a purely hypothetical situation...
