The new stunning West Elm Artist collaborations inspired by South Africa

So...I try not to "want" too many things, cause I pretty much have everything I need, but...

probably my favorite piece in the collection.  The curve of the wood is gorgeous.  I would get the blue/brown. Cape Town designer John Vogel created these benches with webbed seats inspired by traditional African riempie weaving.

Other faves...

This console is a wonderful blend of clean, modern lines, and the grace of spindle legs.

How gorgeous is that red bench?  The "Source" bench is an update on a South African furniture icon.

This garden of pottery candleholders and vases were created by Johannesburg potters Anthony Harris and Gerhard Swart.

The horn-shaped back of this Vogel dining chair was inspired by the antlers of African Nguni cattle.

I have really liked what West Elm has done the last few years, and their latest efforts are no exception.  I have a soft spot for all things that focus on craftsmanship, and tribal is huge right now, and all of these pieces marry the two.

What I've shown here is just a small peek.
You can see more at Elle Decor, which broke the news revealing the collection, and you can now shop the collection early.

A cabin retreat in Denmark - to rough for you or just right?

ahhh...that hot tub might just make it just right for me...

What do you think? Could you live in this cabin full time - or just a week?

Color Inspiration - Nature Inspired Palettes

I hope everyone is loving their holiday! I'm going to be random today and share some not so holiday photos, just because they're relaxing and we could all use a little bit less pressure this time of year!

So, my weakness when it comes to design is color. I'm a bit afraid of it and always lean towards white or soft neutrals. I know, however, that I have to take baby steps to walk the path to using rich, bold colors - so here's a baby step.

These palettes were sent to me by Olympic, who introduced a line partnered with the Audubon Society to raise awareness of the natural world, and to emphasize the importance of environmentally-conscious painting.

Here are the palettes. I've lettered them and would really like to hear which one is your favorite!

A. Tranquil

B. Splendor

C. Mysterious

D. Majestic

E. Harmony

F. Grandeur

G. Glorious

H. Brilliance

If I had to choose I'd pick E. Harmony. How about you?

Make your house feel like spring

Due to the oncoming dreariness and daylight savings time already passed, I set out to find images of nature-inspired homes to cheer me up. Well, thanks to Country Living magazine I found a plethora of homes filled with flowers, botanical prints and textiles, and landscape art galore.

A nature wall of illustrations and pressed flowers

Lovely aged floral bedspreads and slipcovers

A country-lane painting border by botanical-printed china

Urchins serve as objects d'arte

I really love the botanical prints above the mantle.

A work space surrounded with animal and plant objects and art

This bedroom stays warm year-round with rose printed wallpaper and window trim painted green.

I just had to include these guys...
