Victory Ford's casual chic apartment in Lipstick Jungle

I don't know if you guys remember the show Lipstick Jungle from a few years back.  It was written by the same author of Sex and the City, but Lipstick Jungle only ran for two seasons I think.  I watched it on DVD awhile ago with some girlfriends and my favorite part of the show was the character Victory Ford's apartment.  They changed it a bit throughout the show, but it was always a pretty and chic space.

This shot is the apartment in the second episode.  Notice the green room behind them, and the blue room behind that one.  In following episodes, the green room becomes the kitchen, painted light blue, and the room behind that one becomes Victory's design studio (she's a fashion designer in the show).

I really love the colors in the apartment.  There are a lot of combinations I would never think of, but once you see them you're like..."wow - that really works!"

Victory is now in the kitchen, which used to be the green room that you see in the first image.

 I have a serious crush on her throw blanket.

 More of the living room..the two shots above were "night time" shots, so I had to really up the brightness so you can see details.

Some detail shots.  I think they subdued the purple in the living room after the first episode.

Glamorous and eclectic -homes with the best of both worlds

Mixing glamorous and eclectic is not an easy pair to resolve, but I'd say these spaces were beyond successful...

Bold jewel toned walls and furniture take the earthy elements in the room, like the raw wood shelf, up a notch on the glamor scale....

Here, the mod lines of the credenza look good with the Asian pedestal table and birdcage because objects are kept orderly and the space around the furnishings otherwise sparse.

Lining the back of a bookcase with a modern take on an ancient pattern creates an interesting focal point.

I adore this room. The walls are kept quiet, and the bold graphic rug takes the stage.

Can you believe that the black chest of drawers were originally from Ikea, but dressed up to look like a one-of-a-kind piece?

Inspiration to go bold with color and/or pattern

I'm probably a bit braver when it comes to pattern than color - even though I love color so much - especially the jewel tones that are so abundant right now. I think I run into issues choosing a color - so I always fall back on neutrals, grays, or whites. The more I seek out bright colors and patterns, however, the easier it is to imagine using them in my apartment.

Blue and white is possibly my favorite palette - and I love the white chair with the bold blue flower motif.


If your mixing patterns - especially with a wallpaper pattern - make sure the scale of the wallpaper pattern is unique - no other object should have the same scale pattern. Notice that the scale of the rug pattern is larger than the wallpaper.
