2 very different, but beautiful houses. Which do you prefer?

Incase you haven't noticed, I've been loving Country Living Mag. lately. Don't be fooled, it's not all chintzy florals and rooster collections, they have a great grasp on what it means as a lifestyle. It can be modern, retro, or casual, and it's not your grandma's "country." Anyway, in their Feb. issues they featured two houses, both very different, and both worth sharing.

House 1 - simple with a Scandinavian design smarts

I like the home office/sewing room in the photo above.

Home 2 showcases great antique finds - some splurges, some bargains.

Don't worry, the zebra skin is faux.

So, which home is more you!?

A beautiful shabby chic Savannah cottage with some Scandinavian flavor

February is a great month for the home decor magazines. I had a stack waiting for me when I returned from Spain, and I've never used so many page markers! I thought I'd start off sharing all the things inspired me with this light and pretty Savannah cottage- which was condemned when the couple bought it for $29,000. I have a crush on Savannah so my ears always perk at the name!

I really like this simple, clean kitchen

I like the bedding and nightstand here, but I think all the objects above the headboard are a bit much. What do you think?

I really like flat(ish) weave, striped rugs. I really, really like them when they're only $2.99 like the one above from Ikea.

Happy Holiday pics and thank you all!

I really hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, and gets to spend it with loved ones. I'm honored to be a part of such an amazing and supportive community. As some of you know, this has been a very hard couple of months for me with my dog passing, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your kind words and sentiments. They are immensely helpful during this most devastating time.

Entryways - they're more important than you think!

When you walk into your house tonight, are you going to be welcomed by a calming, organized entryway? Or will you be welcomed by muddy boots strewn around, stacks of mail, and random homeless items? While I hope it's the first, if it's not, you need these ideas! Your entryway is the first thing people (and you) see upon entering, and sets the tone for your home, so it has to be up to par! For a really detailed way to set up your entryway, I highly recommend Apartment Therapy The Eight Step Cure, by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan. In his book Gillingham-Ryan devotes an entire chapter to the entryway, or what he calls, "the landing strip."

Not an entryway- but these ideas can be adapted for the entryway.

Make your house feel like spring

Due to the oncoming dreariness and daylight savings time already passed, I set out to find images of nature-inspired homes to cheer me up. Well, thanks to Country Living magazine I found a plethora of homes filled with flowers, botanical prints and textiles, and landscape art galore.

A nature wall of illustrations and pressed flowers

Lovely aged floral bedspreads and slipcovers

A country-lane painting border by botanical-printed china

Urchins serve as objects d'arte

I really love the botanical prints above the mantle.

A work space surrounded with animal and plant objects and art

This bedroom stays warm year-round with rose printed wallpaper and window trim painted green.

I just had to include these guys...
